
AKIPRESS.COM - Chairman of the Parliament of Mongolia Zandanshatar Gombojav received UNDP Resident Representative in Mongolia Matilda Dimovska, upon assuming her office, Montsame reported.
The Chairman expressed gratitude to the United Nations Development Program for its support in organizing the Trans-Altai Stability Dialogue in Ulaanbaatar last June, which addressed the issue of how to ensure gender equality and increase women's participation at the decision-making level.
The Chairman of Mongolia informed that the Parlaiment has amended the law on the election of the parliament to achieve gender equality, mandating that at least 30% of all candidates in the 2024 regular election and at least 40% in the 2028 regular election be women.
Zandanshatar Gombojav added that the Parliament of Mongolia introduced an electronic system for receiving public petitions last week as part of the goal of strengthening parliamentary democracy. More than 100,000 citizens supported the proposal of a 5% value-added tax refund in the electronic system within six days. It made it possible to revise the Law on Value Added Tax.
Newly appointed UNDP Resident Representative in Mongolia Matilda Dimovska commended the Parliament for its support of the Sustainable Development Goals, saying that it is a strong impetus for strengthening parliamentary democracy. She also expressed her commitment to expanding relations and cooperation between the Parliament and the United Nations Development Programme.
Resident Representative Matilda Dimovska noted that UNDP would actively work towards contributing to Mongolia becoming a prosperous country characterized by inclusive, resilient, and sustainable development, a healthy and safe environment, and a cohesive society based on the rule of law and human rights under the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework, to be implemented in Mongolia in 2023-2027.
