Meat export increases in Mongolia

AKIPRESS.COM - Meat exporting enterprises are purchasing live animals (sheep) from herders to survive the winter with less loss as winter is getting tougher in Mongolia, Montsame reports.

Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry remarked that the campaign of purchasing live animals and exporting sheep prepared by halal slaughter is being organized all over the country until February 1. Meat factories are purchasing 500-1,000 head of sheep per day according to the schedule.

Meat factories have purchased a total of 30,000 head of sheep directly from herders and already exported so far. 80 tons of mutton were exported to Iran on January 12.

Due to the increase in meat export, meat storage, and meat reserves have become the next challenge.

According to reports by the Ministry of Food, Agriculture, and Light Industry, the whole capacity of cold storage warehouses for meat in Mongolia totals approximately 120,000 tons, and the capacity of deep-freezing warehouses is 7,500 tons. The capital city has cold storage facilities (180C) with a total capacity of over 68,000 tons, while Darkhan-Uul province has about 7,000 tons, and Bayan-Olgii, Zavkhan, and Sukhbaatar provinces each have cold storage facilities with a total capacity of about 4,000 tons.

Meat exports reached a record high of 80,400 tons in 2023, as the result of introducing a one-stop service to speed up government services, allowing export documents within 8 working hours, canceling all types of meat quotas, and reviving air transport exports.
