Strong explosion occurs in Ulaanbaatar, six people die

AKIPRESS.COM - LPG truck exploded in Bayanzurkh district of Ulaanbaatar on the night of January 24.

An accident occurred on the highway in a residential area, not far from the large markets Narantuul and Dunzhingarav, at about 1 am on January 24. According to preliminary data, a 60-ton LPG truck colllided with another car and exploded as a result.

The fire quickly engulfed a nearby residential building, an office building (Global School) and the MG showroom. At the scene of the emergency, a pillar of fire with a cloud rose tens of meters, then a fire immediately started.

The spread of the fire had been stopped by the firefighters, but residents of nearby buildings were advised to evacuate.

According to eyewitnesses, the blast wave was felt even hundreds of meters from the epicenter.

Six people died as a result of the emergency and 14 others were injured, AFP reported with reference to officials.

3 of the victims were firefighters. Over 30 cars burned down. The cause of the explosion and fire, as well as the extent of the damage, will be investigated.
