AKIPRESS.COM - Director of the International Institute for Central Asia Javlon Vakhabov met with Director of the Central Asia Branch Office of the Korea Water Resources Corporation (K-Water) Lee Chae Ku, UzA reported.

The parties exchanged views on the current situation with water resources and climate change in Central Asia. They noted the importance of increasing the efficiency of water resource use against the backdrop of their reduction.

The Director of the K-Water informed about the implementation of five major projects aimed primarily at improving drinking water supply and sanitation, strengthening the professional capabilities of water supply operators, helping to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and solving problems of using transboundary water resources.

The most significant project was support for developing the water supply system in the Republic of Karakalpakstan, increasing the efficiency of water supply and sanitation in Tashkent.

Lee Chae Ku expressed readiness to provide technical support in familiarizing specialists with the best practices of South Korea in the rational use of water resources, water quality control, flood prevention and innovative technical solutions in the construction of hydropower stations.

Special attention was paid to issues of advanced personnel training in water resources management. The work of K-Water in organizing special courses for ministries and agencies, as well as holding an innovative competition in integrated water resources management and green energy among students of specialized universities in Uzbekistan, was highly appreciated.

The sides agreed to maintain contacts on an ongoing basis to exchange experience and opinions on areas of mutual interest.
