Snow storm occurs in Astana

AKIPRESS.COM - A strong storm occurred in Astana on February 8. School students of the second shift were transferred to distance learning, Tengrinews.kz reports.

More than 2,400 road workers and over 1,600 units of special equipment have been involved in cleaning since early morning, the city administration said. More than 55,000 cubic meters of snow were removed from the city.

Astana airport canceled seven departure and eight arrival flights, while six departure and 12 arrival flights were delayed.

"There is strong wind at the airfield with a speed of 19 m/s and gusts up to 23 m/s. These weather conditions can create difficulties when taking off and landing aircraft. Work to clear the airfield from heavy snow is ongoing," the airport said.

According to Kazhydromet, the snowstorm and ice in Astana will continue on February 8–9. Gusts up to 15-20 m/s, at times 23-28 m/s are expected.
