AKIPRESS.COM - At least 29 people died in a fire in a residential building in the Besiktas district of Istanbul, the BBC News reports.
Istanbul provincial governor Davut Gül earlier said that 25 people were killed and three more were in hospital with serious injuries.
"The death toll has increased to 29 people. One person injured in the fire is receiving treatment," he said.
According to Gül, the fire broke out at 12:47 a.m. local time in the basement of a 16-story residential building in Gayrettepe district (part of Besiktas).
The Masquerade nightclub was located on two floors of the basement, where renovation work was underway.
According to preliminary data, all fire victims were construction workers who carried out renovation at the club.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire. Six people have been detained in connection with the fire, Turkish media reported.
