2nd Trans-Altai Sustainability Dialogue ends in Ulaanbaatar

AKIPRESS.COM - The second Trans-Altai Sustainability Dialogue is held at the State Palace of Mongolia on April 25-26 as part of Sustainable Development Goal 16 (SDG 16) focused on advancing peace, justice, and strong institutions.

The event is co-organized by the Parliament of Mongolia, Stanford University's Walter H. Shorenstein Asia-Pacific Research Center (APARC) and the Ban Ki-moon Foundation For a Better Future. Over 300 delegates from 11 countries, including Azerbaijan, Turkey, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, the Republic of Korea, Japan and USA, take part in the conference.

Participants of the forum include Chairman of the Parliament of Mongolia Zandanshatar Gombojav, the 8th Secretary-General of the United Nations and Chairman of the Ban Ki-moon Foundation For a Better Future Ban Ki-moon, and Speaker of the Parliament of Kyrgyzstan Nurlanbek Shakiyev.

Speaking at the opening of the forum, Speaker of the Mongolian Parliament Zandanshatar Gombojav emphasized that Mongolia pursues a peaceful, open, independent, multi-vector foreign policy and actively organizes meetings and events at the regional and international levels, as well as puts forward its own initiatives.

In turn, Chairman of the Parliament of Kyrgyzstan Nurlanbek Shakiyev noted in his speech that global peace and security are affected by many problems, including climate change, loss of biodiversity, unbalanced economic growth and social inequality.

"We need to ensure equal participation regardless of social background, ensure the protection of minority rights, non-discrimination, equal access to education and basic services, and vest government institutions with appropriate duties," added the Chairman of the Kyrgyz Parliament.
