Mongolia plants 42 million trees since 2021 to combat desertification

AKIPRESS.COM - Mongolia has planted a total of 42 million trees and 63 million seedlings of over 120 species of coniferous and deciduous trees and shrubs across the country since the launch of the national tree-planting campaign "One Billion Trees" in 2021, the President's press secretary Zolbayar Ulziibayar said on Thursday.

Ulaanbaatar and 21 Mongolian provinces, as well as other organizations and enterprises, including 21 largest organizations operating in the mining industry, supported the initiative of the President of Mongolia to plant 1 billion trees and confirmed that they will plant a total of 608 million trees by 2030.

A nationwide campaign was officially launched in October 2021, when Khurelsukh Ukhnaa announced at the UN General Assembly that his country was committed to combating desertification and climate change.
