AKIPRESS.COM - The Office of the President of Mongolia and the Forest Agency held a joint press briefing regarding the implementation of "One Billion Trees" campaign, the National Tree Planting Day, and further actions on May 2.
National Tree Planting Day events were organized across the country, with the main program taking place at the garden in Dambadarjaa district on May 11.
The National Day will last for a month until May 31. Fairs offering saplings and seedlings, along with instructions and consultations, will be held at three locations in Ulaanbaatar — Tenger Plaza, Liberty Square, and the garden in Dambadarjaa — as well as in the districts of 21 provinces.
Director-General of the Forest Agency Oyunsanaa Byambasuren provided information on the implementation of "One Billion Trees" campaign. 41.5 million trees were planted in the country in 2023. 306 government agencies and organizations have planted trees in eight locations over the past three years. Their number has risen to 452 organizations. Tree seedlings and supplies grew by 40%.
In addition to planting new trees, the organizations are working to protect the forests.
"Destructive insects lived on 730,000 hectares of land in 2022. This year, the destructive insects will be destroyed on 330,000 hectares of land. The government's action program aims to increase the forest area to 8.6%," Oyunsanaa said.
"After the announcement of the campaign, the economic situation around the world became difficult due to the Covid-19 outbreak. This year's results will be more evident than the previous years. We are also planning to build agricultural parks and agroforestry in four places in the country," Mongolian Presidential Spokesperson Zolbayar Alziibayar said.
