AKIPRESS.COM - Uzbekistan imported gas worth $462.8 million in January-April, Gazeta.uz reports with reference to data on foreign trade from the President's Statistics Agency.
This figure is 3 times more than in the first four months of last year, when supplies amounted to $153.1 million. This also represents 66% of all gas imports in 2023 ($694.9 million).
Imports of gas amounted to $35.6 million in January, to $131.1 million in February, to $193.5 million in March, and $102.6 million in April. The Statistics Agency did not disclose the physical volumes of supplies.
Uzbekistan has also exported gas worth $52.3 million since the beginning of 2024, which is almost 2.3 times less than last year ($117.9 million). The figure was $21 million in January, $5.7 million in February, $18.7 million in March, and $6.9 million in April.
Imports exceeded exports by $410.5 million, which means Uzbekistan is strengthening its status as a net importer of gas.
The Chinese General Customs Administration reported that China (the main buyer of Uzbek gas) did not import gas from Uzbekistan in March, but bought gas for $11.4 million in April. Total imports of Uzbek gas by China amounted to $68.8 million in 2024, which is 31.5% more than the volume of total gas exports from Uzbekistan. Gazeta.uz has repeatedly drawn attention to the fact that statistical data between China and Uzbekistan on gas supplies differ several times.
