New National Library building opens in Mongolia

AKIPRESS.COM - The National Library of Mongolia opened its new building on May 27, Montsame reports.

In his speech, President of Mongolia Khurelsukh Ukhnaa expressed gratitude to the public and private sectors and the management and staff of the National Library of Mongolia for their efforts in building the Library and wished them success.

The President presented 99 copies of the Comprehensive Edition of the Secret History of the Mongols to the Library.

"The new Library welcomes everyone – children, elders, families, and those with developmental needs. We've carefully transferred 534,000 modern books from the former Library, and the research wing of the new Library will be accessible online," Director of the National Library of Mongolia Ichinkhorloo Bayarkhuu said.

The National Library transferred its collection of 534,000 books and intellectual works to the new Library. The former building serves as the Research Library, which holds a vast collection of approximately three million items, including sutras, manuscripts, primary sources, research materials, and books.

The new library building has 16 reading rooms and can accommodate up to 530 patrons simultaneously. In addition, there are halls for conferences, workshops, and exhibitions aimed at fostering cooperation and innovation, as well as sound and video recording studios, multimedia and e-reading rooms, group study rooms, and creative spaces.
