Foreign Minister of Armenia denies Pashinyan's statement about leaving CSTO

AKIPRESS.COM - The statement of Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan about leaving the CSTO was misunderstood, Minister of Foreign Affairs Ararat Mirzoyan said. According to Mirzoyan, the Prime Minister meant that Armenia would not return to the union in case of leaving.

"Prime Minister said we will decide when we leave, but we will not go back. This is what he said — no less, no more. If anyone claims that the Prime Minister of Armenia said that Armenia is leaving the CSTO, they are wrong, and [this] is very easy to prove," Mirzoyan added.

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan answered a question from opposition MP Tadevos Avetisyan about why Armenia, expressing dissatisfaction with the CSTO, does not leave the union in the National Assembly on June 12.

"We will leave. Are you scaring us with it? We will decide when we will leave. Well, what do you think is the next step? Well, can we go back? There is no other way... We won't go back," the PM stated.

Nikol Pashinyan announced the suspension of Armenia's participation in the CSTO in February 2024. In March, Pashinyan said leaving the CSTO was a possibility if Yerevan was not satisfied with the partners' vision on Armenia's sovereignty and the CSTO's zone of responsibility.
