Inaugural Central Asia-Korea summit to be held in 2025

AKIPRESS.COM - The first Central Asia-Korea summit, proposed by South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol, will be held in 2025 in Seoul. President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev supported the idea of holding the summit.

During negotiations in Tashkent, the presidents of the two countries agreed to launch a new partnership model in modern conditions.

“A new era of high-tech and innovative cooperation begins in our relations. I am confident that the joint statement signed today on the further deepening and comprehensive expansion of the special strategic partnership and about 20 other documents will contribute to these good aspirations,” Mirziyoyev said.

The parties agreed to adopt a roadmap to ensure the timely implementation of all agreements reached. In addition, to support joint plans, Mirziyoyev proposed introducing a multi-level mechanism for monitoring and facilitating projects.

As part of the state visit of President Yoon Suk Yeol, agreements worth $2 billion were signed with the Economic Development and Cooperation Fund of the Republic of Korea (EDCF) alone to finance new projects in Uzbekistan.

The total volume of Korean investments in Uzbekistan’s economy exceeded $7.5 billion. In recent years, mutual trade has doubled, reaching $2.5 billion.
