AKIPRESS.COM - "Erdenes Tavantolgoi" JSC inaugurated a coal enrichment plant facility with an annual capacity of 10 million tons on June 20, Montsame reports.
Construction of the plant with an annual capacity of 30 million tons started in 2022. A coal enrichment plant, which ranks first in Asia, was built and put into operation while a special regime in relation to "Erdenes Tavantolgoi" was active.
Officials said the plant is the fifth largest coking coal processing plant in the world and the first in Asia. With the commissioning of a plant, the output of one ton of coal will increase by $10-20 at the current exchange rate.
The plant enriches coal by washing it with water. It will reuse 96% of the used water. The plant will begin operating at full capacity in about a year.
Once fully operational, Erdenes Tavantolgoi JSC expects to produce and sell an average of 24 million tons of products annually, generating $1.9 billion in sales revenue and achieving a net profit of $197.3 million. Consequently, $185.8 million in taxes will be contributed to the state and local budgets, the authorities noted.
The general contractor for the project is the "Norinco Dadi" Partnership and the Dadi Engineering Development Group from China, with oversight from engineers of the Ministry of Mining and Heavy Industry of Mongolia and Erdenes Tavantolgoi JSC.
Currently, "Norinco Dadi" has built two warehouses to receive 80,000 tons of raw coal, an enrichment plant, three concentrated coal warehouses, a mining town housing 216 workers, and other supporting infrastructure. In total, 67 facilities will be built to implement the project.
