AKIPRESS.COM - The delegation of the Republic of Uzbekistan represented by the Committee for Industrial, Radiation and Nuclear Safety under the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan, as well as JSC Uzkimyosanoat, are taking part in the Regional Conference for Central Asia in Astana (Kazakhstan) dedicated to UN Security Council Resolution 1540 and industry.
Participants are discussing the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1540 and sharing their experience as part of export control of dual-use goods. In particular, the chief specialist of the Department of Radiation and Nuclear Safety of the Committee for Industrial, Radiation and Nuclear Safety under the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan – National Contact Point from the Republic of Uzbekistan on UN Security Council Resolution 1540 Otabek Kasimov presented information on the legislation in export control and the progress in fulfilling obligations under international treaties in chemical, biological, radiation and nuclear safety.
Reference: UN Security Council Resolution 1540 (2004) requires all states to adopt and enforce appropriate laws and take effective measures to prevent the proliferation of these weapons and their means of delivery to non-state actors, particularly for terrorist purposes.
The Regional Conference for Central Asia on UN Security Council Resolution 1540 and industry is organized by the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs jointly with the Federal Office for Economic Affairs and Export Control of Germany (BAFA).
At the conference, the delegation of the Republic of Uzbekistan proposed holding the next regional conference in Tashkent next year.
