UNESCO General Conference to be held in Samarkand

AKIPRESS.COM - The 43rd UNESCO General Conference is scheduled to take place in Samarkand in 2025, UzA notes, citing the European Geopolitical Forum.

This marks the first time Uzbekistan will host the conference.

The conference will focus on discussions and decisions on UNESCO's activities. In addition to Samarkand, conference events will also be held in the cities of Tashkent, Bukhara, Khiva, and Shahrisabz.

At next year's UNESCO conference, officials plan to develop projects for establishing the Great Silk Road Museum in Samarkand, restoring Amir Timur's gardens, restoring the Bibi-Khanum complex — as well as a master plan for protecting the historical center of Bukhara, which is on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a decree on measures to prepare for the international forum on March 15.

The resolution established an organizing committee for preparations for the UNESCO General Conference, headed by Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov.

The session will be held at the Silk Road Samarkand tourist complex.
