AKIPRESS.COM - President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited the construction site of the third copper processing plant of the Almalyk Mining and Metallurgical Complex during his visit to Tashkent region.
This project is part of the development of the Yoshlik-1 deposit. The extraction of minerals will be carried out on an area of 11,000 hectares.
The deposit contains 13 types of valuable and rare metals, including gold, copper, silver, selenium, and molybdenum.
The foundation of the copper processing plant was laid in the summer of 2021.
The cost of this large project exceeds $4.6 billion, including the development of the deposit and the construction of an industrial complex with infrastructure.
The President was told that 41 kilometers of railway tracks have been laid and a 650 MW substation has been installed. Imported equipment has also been brought in, in particular from the USA, Great Britain, China, Russia, Germany and other countries.
According to experts, the enterprise will be able to process 60 million tons of ore per year at the first stage, due to which 917,000 tons of copper and 2,500 tons of molybdenum concentrates will be produced.
At the second stage, the plant's capacity will triple, and annual ore processing will increase to 160 million tons. It is expected that by 2028 this plant will produce 400,000 tons of copper, 50 tons of gold and 270 tons of silver per year.
