President of Turkmenistan, UN Secretary-General discuss cooperation in Kazan

AKIPRESS.COM - President Serdar Berdimuhamedov held a meeting with United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres on the sidelines of the XVI BRICS Summit in the BRICS Plus/Outreach format held in Kazan.

During the meeting, they exchanged views on the possibilities of expanding cooperation in a number of priority areas.

It was noted that, as a neutral state, twice recognized by the Community of Nations, Turkmenistan has been pursuing an active policy in the international arena for many years, maintaining effective relations with the UN and its specialized agencies in a wide range of areas. Thus, it was mentioned that it was on the initiative of Turkmenistan that the UN General Assembly declared 2025 the International Year of Peace and Trust.

Noting the importance of solving the common tasks of national and global development, the head of state once again confirmed the intention of the Turkmen side to comprehensively expand and deepen the established constructive dialogue on a long-term, mutually respectful basis.

Having expressed gratitude for the proactive approach to solving pressing problems of our time and building multi-format cooperation with specialized UN agencies, the head of the authoritative international structure emphasized that Turkmenistan has been and remains an important partner of the Organization in ensuring universal peace, security and sustainable development.

At the end of the meeting, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres exchanged mutual wishes for good health, well-being and great success in their work, expressing confidence that the established fruitful cooperation between Turkmenistan and the UN will steadily develop, taking into account their mutual interest in achieving the global Millennium Development Goals.
