AKIPRESS.COM - Another suspect in the assassination attempt on the former press secretary of the President of Uzbekistan, Komil Allamjonov, was detained in Seoul, South Korea, Ozodlik reported with reference to sources.

According to the media report, after the incident, 36-year-old native of Tashkent Djavlan Yunusov was put on the international wanted list by Interpol on suspicion of attempted murder and was issued a “red notice”, meaning he was wanted for a particularly serious crime.

At around 01:40 am on October 26, on Ifor Street in Kibray district of Tashkent region, two men opened fire on a Range Rover SUV and fled. The statement from the Prosecutor General's Office of Uzbekistan only mentioned the make of the car and the initials of the driver, S.S. Allamjonov's name was not mentioned.

Several criminal cases were launched under Article 25 ("Preparation for a crime and attempted crime"), Article 97 ("Intentional murder") and Article 248 ("Illegal trafficking in firearms, ammunition, main parts of firearms, explosives, blasting agents or explosive devices") of the Criminal Code of Uzbekistan.

Four people were detained earlier, whose names were not publicized by the Uzbek authorities. The investigation is ongoing.

40-year-old Komil Allamjonov served as the press secretary of the President of Uzbekistan from December 2017 to October 2018. He was then appointed Acting Director General of the Uzbek Agency for Press and Information (UzAPI), which was later transformed into the Agency for Information and Mass Communications (AIMC). Allamjonov's deputy was the daughter of the current President of Uzbekistan, Saida Mirziyoyeva.

In January 2020, Allamjonov and Mirziyoyeva announced their resignation from AIMC and created the Public Fund for Support and Development of National Mass Media. Allamjonov headed the Fund's Board of Trustees, and Mirziyoyeva assumed the role of his deputy.

In the summer of 2022, Allamjonov returned to the Presidential Administration as Deputy Head, where he handled ssues of public opinion research and information policy. In August 2023, he headed the Department of Information Policy of the Presidential Administration. On September 30, 2024, he left the post. He announced his intention to work in the private sector.
