Khuree maternity hospital of Ulaanbaatar doubles capacity

AKIPRESS.COM - Prime Minister of Mongolia Oyun-Erdene Luvsannamsrai, ?embers of the government, Mayor of Ulaanbaatar Nyambaatar Khishgee, and other officials visited the Khuree maternity hospital on February 4, Montsame reported.

To improve the healthcare services and increase accessibility, the expansion of the Khuree maternity hospital started in 2022. A new nine-story building was put into operation last November. With 180 additional beds, the hospital's capacity has doubled, providing comprehensive obstetric, gynecological, and neonatal care services to about 80,000 women and newborns annually.

The government increased investment in the health sector in 2021-2024, investing a total of 954 billion tugriks, equivalent to the past 10 years. Particularly, a total of 292 billion tugriks was invested in constructing new buildings for the Urguu and Khuree maternity hospitals and major renovation of the National Center for Maternal and Child Health of Mongolia.

The government has also launched the construction of the Organ Transplant Center in 2024. With an investment of 140 billion tugriks, an eight-story building with 120 beds, 15 operating rooms, and an imaging center will be completed in two years.

The Prime Minister emphasized that 31 hospitals will be put into operation with funding from the state budget in 2025.

"The Capital City will have 14 districts when the Law on the Legal Status of Cities and Villages comes into effect in 2026. The old building of the Khuree maternity hospital will be fortified and expanded to become a general hospital in Sukhbaatar city. The purchase of modern equipment required for the hospital will be funded by the capital's budget. In the future, we will reorganize 14 general hospitals in the city and allocate necessary investments in the capital city's budget. In addition, we are providing modern equipment to medical institutions in stages," Mayor Nyambaatar said.

As part of improving public health care services, the early health screening and diagnosis campaign is ongoing nationwide. 1.5 million people had been covered in 2024, accounting for 44% of the total population. This preventive campaign will be updated by introducing modern technological advances and artificial intelligence.

The hospital has been operating since 1959 and over 500,000 infants were delivered there.
