Chinwe Ogbonna appointed UNFPA Country Director for Kyrgyzstan

AKIPRESS.COM - Chinwe Ogbonna has been appointed Country Director of the United Nations Population Fund in Kyrgyzstan. First Deputy Minister Asein Isaev received her letter of appointment on February 28.

The UNFPA Country Director informed about the main areas of cooperation between the Fund and Kyrgyzstan, including improving the quality of maternal and reproductive health services, supporting the implementation of youth empowerment policy and assisting in conducting the population census.

Deputy Foreign Minister Asein Isaev highly appreciated the support provided by the Fund to Kyrgyzstan, while noting the importance of cooperation, including solving the demographic issues facing the country.

Chinwe Ogbonna brings over 20 years of experience at the global, regional, and national levels, specializing in adaptive leadership, intergovernmental relations, and strategic partnerships for impactful results. Prior to this role, she served as Deputy Regional Director for UNFPA ESARO, Officer-in-Charge (OiC) in the Eritrea Country Office, and Head of the Middle-Income Country Technical Hub of ESARO. Her previous UNFPA roles include Deputy Representative in Zambia and Assistant Representative, Health Systems Strengthening, and Programme Specialist for Health Economics in the Nigeria Country Office. Before joining UNFPA, she worked with WHO in Ethiopia, was deployed by the US CDC, as well as with Family Health International, USAID, and the Government of Nigeria.

A Nigerian national, Chinwe holds a degree in Pharmacy and a Master's in Health Systems Management from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine and the University of London, with a focus on health economics and health financing. She also holds additional qualifications in healthcare economics from Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh, and the World Bank Institute, with a specialization in sustainable financing in emerging markets and developing economies. Chinwe is also a 2013 Rockefeller Foundation Fellow (Social Innovation Global Leadership Program).
