Mongolia and Laos to cooperate in information and technology

AKIPRESS.COM - Minister of Digital Development, Innovation, and Communications of Mongolia Baatarkhuu Tsend met with Ambassador of Laos to Mongolia Hongkeo Souksavath on April 10, Montsame reported.

This meeting laid the foundation for bilateral cooperation in information and technology between Mongolia and Laos.

Minister Baatarkhuu introduced the "e-Mongolia" system, highlighting its technological advancements. The Minister of Digital Development, Innovation, and Communications noted that the implementation of the system led to Mongolia improving its position by 28 places in the United Nations' biennial E-Government Development Index (EGDI). Mongolia ranked 46th out of 190 countries.

Minister of Digital Development, Innovation, and Communications of Mongolia Baatarkhuu Tsend proposed the export of the "e-Mongolia" system's source code to the Lao side, with the objective of developing a new government e-service platform, to be known as "e-Laos".

The two sides concurred that the initiative represents an important step not only in enhancing bilateral cooperation in the field of information technology but also in promoting transparency, accessibility, and efficiency in public service delivery. The officials further exchanged views on opportunities for sharing best practices and fostering joint efforts in advancing the digital economy.

Notably, President of Mongolia Khurelsukh Ukhnaa paid a visit to Laos in November 2023, followed by the visit of President of Laos Thongloun Sisoulith to Mongolia in June 2024. During these visits, the two countries signed three Memorandums of Understanding on cooperation in health, food and agriculture, light industry, and public service reform.
