Tashkent hosts first meeting of Central Asian intelligence chiefs

AKIPRESS.COM - The first-ever meeting of the heads of intelligence agencies from Central Asian countries was held in Tashkent, focusing on strengthening regional cooperation in addressing contemporary security threats and challenges, Kun.uz reported.

The gathering was organized within the framework of Uzbekistan’s chairmanship of the 7th Consultative Meeting of Central Asian Leaders. 

During the meeting, participants focused on formulating unified approaches to assessing modern threats and risks to the security of countries in the region. Enhancing the efficiency of cooperation among intelligence agencies in countering these threats was another key topic of discussion.

The sides exchanged views on urgent issues related to regional security, counter-terrorism, extremism, the illicit trafficking of narcotics and weapons, transnational crime, and the safeguarding of information and cybersecurity. They also discussed other mutually beneficial areas of cooperation.

It was noted that the event marked an important milestone in the development of security cooperation among Central Asian states and laid the foundation for regular meetings of the region’s intelligence chiefs aimed at further strengthening peace and stability across Central Asia.
