Turkmenistan, IMF discuss issues of cooperation

AKIPRESS.COM - Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Serdar Muhammetdurdiyev held a meeting with the delegation of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), led by head of the IMF mission to Turkmenistan Anna Rose Bordon, on May 23, the Foreign Ministry of Turkmenistan reported.

During the meeting, the sides discussed the current state and prospects of Turkmenistan's cooperation with the IMF, including in technical assistance, advisory support and staff training. Special attention was paid to the issues of supervision of macroeconomic indicators, exchange of statistical information and promotion of structural reforms.

The Turkmen side expressed gratitude to the experts of the Fund for support and practical recommendations in the development and implementation of economic policy. It was emphasized that Turkmenistan considers the IMF as an important partner in carrying out reforms aimed at increasing the openness of the economy and deepening integration into the global economic space.

The parties also discussed current challenges related to global geopolitical instability and its impact on national economies, including external risks, prospects for trade and tariff regulation. The issues related to Turkmenistan's accession to the World Trade Organization, the implementation of major infrastructure projects, as well as the improvement of mechanisms for the exchange of economic information was especially discussed.

Anna Bordon highly appraised Turkmenistan's efforts to ensure macroeconomic stability, emphasizing the constructive ongoing dialogue with the Turkmen side.

Special emphasis was placed on the development of foreign economic relations, discussion of bilateral agreements, as well as the implementation of infrastructure projects.
