
AKIPRESS.COM - Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Head of the Presidential Administration of Kyrgyzstan Adylbek Kasymaliyev congratulated workers of Kyrgyzstan’s light industry on their professional holiday, the Cabinet’s press service reported on June 8.
In his congratulatory speech, Kasymaliyev stated that the sewing sector accounts for 90% of the country’s light industry.
"Sewing production is one of the most important sectors of our economy. Today, it plays a key role in the country’s development, being a major factor in employment, and a source of income for a significant portion of the population as well as for the state budget," he explained.
He added that domestic products hold strong positions both in local and international markets. The growth of e-commerce is expanding opportunities for Kyrgyz manufacturers, their goods are successfully represented on major global marketplaces, earning the trust and respect of consumers both near and far.
"Each year, the industry's performance improves. In 2024, the output of textile production, clothing and footwear, leather and other leather goods reached 20.5 billion soms, which is 15% more than in 2023. The largest share, 85%, comes from clothing production, while 12% is from textiles," Kasymaliyev said.
In 2024, around 130,000 people were employed in the light industry, with the majority working in garment manufacturing. This highlights not only the industry’s economic strength, but also its significant social impact providing jobs for thousands of Kyrgyz citizens.
