
AKIPRESS.COM - The water volume in the high-mountain lake Takyr-Tor at approximately 17:31 on June 27 reached 450,000–500,000 cubic meters, resulting in a dam breach, the Ministry of Emergency Situations reports.
The breach caused flooding, which destroyed one of the bridges between the villages of Almaluu and Kebek-Biy (Mountain Serafimovka) in Issyk-Ata district.
As of 21:00, traffic in this section of the road was completely blocked. Cleanup and road restoration efforts were underway at the site.
Currently, the road remains fully closed. Clearing and restoration work is ongoing.
An emergency response team from the Ministry of Emergency’s office in Chui region, together with the evacuation commission of Issyk-Ata district, evacuated 950 people.
For the evacuation, 11 minibuses provided by the Kant city administration and 8 minibuses from the district transport service were used.
The evacuees have been temporarily housed in the villages of Nooruz and Toguz-Bulak (in schools, mosques, cultural centers and a care home).
To eliminate the consequences of the emergency, the following personnel have been mobilized:
• 8 employees from the Chui regional office of the Ministry of Emergency Situations;
• 35 employees from the Issyk-Ata and Kant Emergency Departments;
• 30 officers from the district police department;
• 19 local government staff;
• 22 members of the Civil Protection Service.
The water that breached the dam continues to flow from the direction of the village of Nizhnyaya Serafimovka along the riverbed. However, buildings, residential houses and the care home for the elderly and disabled located near the river are not under threat. There have been no casualties reported.
