AKIPRESS.COM - President Ilham Aliyev declared that Azerbaijan is preparing an international lawsuit against Russian authorities in connection with the crash of a plane of Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL), haqquin.az reports.
He said that Baku has not received "any reaction" from Russian officials for 7 months.
"Our Prosecutor General regularly sends letters to the head of the Investigative Committee of Russia. But all the letters receive one answer: "The investigation is ongoing," Aliyev said.
He demanded that Russia "recognize this disaster as its fault, punish those who shot down the plane and compensate the families of the victims, the injured, and AZAL Airlines for the loss of the plane."
The lawsuit will be sent to international judicial authorities, the President noted. According to him, the Russian side has been notified about this. "Everything is clear to us. We know what happened, and we can prove it," Aliyev declared.
In July, Azerbaijani Deputy Foreign Minister Araz Azimov called on Russia to identify and bring to justice those responsible for the plane crash. He also said that Baku expects Moscow to conduct a "full and transparent investigation" and pay compensation.
The Embraer E190 aircraft of AZAL Airlines, en route from Baku to Grozny, crashed on December 25, 2024 in Aktau, Kazakhstan. The plane crashed after it was redirected across the Caspian Sea to Kazakhstan during a Ukrainian drone attack on the Caucasus regions. 38 people died in the crash, 29 people survived.
