AKIPRESS.COM - The Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) has confirmed that a projectile struck the grounds of the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant near the city of Bushehr, Tasnim news agency reported.
The incident resulted in no casualties or damage to the facility's critical infrastructure.
The AEOI condemned the strike, stating that such actions violate all international norms and risk irreversible environmental consequences for the entire region.
International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Grossi acknowledged receiving reports of the strike and called for maximum restraint from all parties to prevent a catastrophic nuclear accident.
Alexey Likhachev, head of Russia’s state nuclear corporation Rosatom, described the attack as a flagrant disregard for global security principles and confirmed the strike occurred at 18:11 Moscow time. He reported that the radiation background at the station remains normal and that none of the approximately 480 Russian personnel currently on-site were injured. As a precaution, Rosatom is preparing a third wave of evacuations for its staff.
The Bushehr plant, Iran's first nuclear power station, was completed with Russian assistance and has been a focal point of international concern since the commencement of recent U.S. and Israeli military strikes against Iranian targets.
