AKIPRESS.COM - The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change and the Mongolian Red Cross Society signed a memorandum of understanding to cooperate on conducting research and studies aimed at reducing desertification, adapting to climate change, and protecting citizens' livelihoods and health from the adverse impacts of climate change, as well as organizing public information, training, and awareness activities, Montsame reported.
The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change and the Mongolian Red Cross Society jointly organized a roundtable meeting to strengthen national partnerships on "Desertification and Climate Change", in preparation for the 17th Conference of the Parties (COP17) to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification.
During the meeting, Minister of Environment and Climate Change Sandag-Ochir Tsend stated that the government has made climate change, desertification, and land degradation key policy priorities.
At a government meeting last year, Mongolia updated and approved its Nationally Determined Contribution targets, setting a goal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 30.3% by 2035. This reflects the country's commitment to strengthening its climate policy.
Hosting the 17th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification this year will also provide Mongolia with an opportunity to demonstrate its leadership on the global stage.
