Son-Kol lake from bird's eye view
Naryn region is a home to Son-Kul, the second largest lake in Kyrgyzstan. A significant part of the lake belongs to the Karatal-Japyryk nature park.
Director of the nature park Bakyt Choroyev shared pictures of the lake from bird's eye view. The area of the Karatal-Japyryk State Reserve is 24 000 hectares and consists of three parts: Karatal-Japyryk, the water areas of the lake Son-Kul and Chatyr-Kul lake. There are 38 species of mammals, 190 species of birds, 7 species of fish, 7 species of semi-aquatics and 300 plant species.
Lake Son-Kul is located at an altitude of 3000 meters - one of the main habitats of waterfowl are mountain goose, whooping swan, grebes and other migratory birds.
The nature park is home to the Tien-Shan mountain sheep, snow leopards, Eurasian lynx, mountain geese, black stork, demoiselle, golden eagle, balaban and himalayan griffon.
