Khiva – another reason to visit Uzbekistan
Khiva is a city located in Khorezm region of Uzbekistan. Archaeologists say the city has existed since the 6th century.
The city was first recorded by Muslim travellers in the 10th century. By the early 17th century, Khiva had become the capital of the Khanate of Khiva, ruled by a branch of the Astrakhans, a Genghisid dynasty.
Itchan Kala in Khiva was the first site in Uzbekistan to be inscribed in the World Heritage List (1991).
