Sanitary landfill (or merely city dump) of Kyrgyzstan's Bishkek is located on the northern outskirts of the capital. It has been in operation since 1973.
The dump's area is more than 50 hectares. Layer of waste has reached 10 meters.
The site employs both its official workers and some private individuals who collect useful waste – paper, plastic, metal, etc.
Earlier, the mayor's office of Bishkek signed a grant agreement with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development on improvement of waste management in the amount of €8 million, which aims to preserve favorable quality of the environment and improve sanitary and epidemiological situation in the city.
