U.S. kok-boru team thanks Kyrgyzstan for its warm welcome
Kok-boru (literally, gray wolf) is a traditional Kyrgyz horseback competition.
Kok-boru has its origins in the distant past, when wolves often attacked people's livestock and caused many problems. Angry men could go chasing the wolf pack to revenge. Having reached the pack, they picked up running wolves and threw the animals from each other to each other, almost playfully.
The game today requires teams to throw dead sheep or goats into their opponent's well on the playing field.
