Trial of opposition leader Omurbek Tekebayev kicks off
Opposition party leader Omurbek Tekebayev's trial kicked off on Monday.
The Pervomaysky district court is also hearing the case of former Ambassador of Kyrgyzstan to Korea Duishonkul Chotonov.
Both of them are changed with corruption.
The presiding judge is Aibek Ernis uulu, who allowed taking photos and videos during today's hearings only.
Omurbek Tekebayev and Duishonkul Chotonov were formally indicted on corruption charges on April 21.
On February 25, the General Prosecutor's Office launched criminal case against Tekebayev for corruption and fraud.
On February 26, Tekebayev and Chotonov were detained on suspicion of the mentioned charges. On the next day, the court in Bishkek accused the two of corruption. They were taken into custody until April 25 and then their detention was prolonged until May 25.
