AKIPRESS.COM - An event to mark Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary was organized by the Embassy of India on 2nd October 2016 in Bishkek. About 100 persons from the Indian community and Kyrgyz nationals representing various sections of the society participated in the anniversary celebrations. They all paid tributes to Mahatma Gandhi at his statue on the Mahatma Gandhi Street, located about 100 yards from the Embassy. Prayers were also held at the site, after which they all came back to the Embassy where Ambassador of India addressed the gathering briefly.

A live webcast of inauguration of Pravasi Bharatiya Kendra (Indian Diaspora Centre) by Prime Minister of India in New Delhi was held as part of the Gandhi anniversary celebrations. The centre will provide a venue for commemorating the history and achievements of the Indian Diaspora and to act as a focal point for various activities promoting stronger links between India and the Diaspora.

Copies of “An autobiography of Mahatma Gandhi” in Kyrgyz language were also distributed among the Kyrgyz participants.
